Planning and Strategy.
Plans and manages all activities, staff and facilities involved or associated with the company’s core business operations

Development of Policies and Procedures.
Develops policies and procedures and periodically reviews, evaluates, assesses core operations activities to ensure high efficiency, productivity and client satisfaction

Budgeting and Budgetary Control
Prepares and manages the departmental budgetary allocation and ensures compliance to the budget within the department
Ascertains a cost effective rate structure both internally and externally and authorizes and controls operations related spending in co-ordination with the Finance Manager

Reporting
Consolidates and comprehensively reports on all core operation activities relevant for management decision making e.g evaluation, performance, procedures, strategies, policies, finances etc.

Management of Operations Activities
Ensures that all functions under operations are effectively coordinated in line with the SPEDAG INTERFREIGHT regulations and procedures
Instills effective, efficient and timely management of all activities, staff and facilities in the operations department

Oversees timely and accurate preparation of customs documents

Transport and Equipment
Ensures optimal usage of company trucks and all operational equipment

Management of the Branches.
Oversees and makes follow-up on branch activities in co-ordination with all the deputy operations manager to keep abreast of branch operations.
Ensures optimal staff allocation for every branch
Develops standard procedures for branches so as to ensure efficiency and achievement of results
Visits every branch regularly for contact and oversight
Staff Management and Supervision
Recommends staff remuneration, promotion, hiring, suspension of staff in coordination with the Human Resource department and management
Oversees efficient supervision of all staff in operations department and ensures that as a minimum the following disciplines are maintained
i] Period staff targets are set that are smart
ii] Staff appraisals are conducted periodically in accordance with SPEDAG
INTERFREIGHT’S procedures
iii] Staff performance in appraisals are highlighted and followed up
iv] Staff are remunerated, disciplined, promoted or demoted on the basis
of their performance
Ensures compliance with all legal, health, environmental and safety regulations
Maintains a positive working relationship with the staff and stakeholders of SPEDAG INTERFREIGHT

- A Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Economics or Social Administration
- A Post Graduate Diploma in Customs Clearing and Freight Forwarding
- Certificates in MS Word and Excel
Experience
- Must have (5) years working experience in a relevant field
Personal Attributes
- Demonstrate aptitude for teamwork
- Demonstrate experience in managing and controlling budgets
- Must be highly competent in managing and leading staff
- High level of interpersonal skills
- Must have effective communication skills, both written and oral
- Must be prepared to work long and irregular hours
- Must be able to keep deadlines at all times
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks at any given time on a continuous basis
